Still Progressing...

Hey everyone. Things are still moving along at the Turner's. The kids are continuing to grow and expand their language skills while "learning the ropes". They have experienced so many mildstones in the past 2 weeks and are handling the experiences with grace, for the most part. We did have one major upset with one of the kids last Sunday, we are assuming, over a toy. The kids try to label all objects as "Colton's" or "Aizley's" which I think was the cause of our meltdown Sunday. We are trying to make them understand that in a family, we ALL share, that one item doesn't have to belong to a particular person. We try to demonstrate that just because the hair brush is "moma's" doesn't mean that Aizley can't use it, or that just because Papa uses a cup to drink out of doesn't mean that once washed Colton's can't drink out of it too. This behavior really mimicks what we saw in the orphanage. The kids there labeled everything and wouldn't disturb something that wasn't theirs. We had a hard time trying to get all the kids to play with the balls that we would bring to the orphanage. They thought since Colton and Aizley's moma and papa brought the ball, they couldn't share and our kids felt the same way. I have to say that this has been our biggest issue in overcoming. Hey, it could always be worse, right?

Other than this particular incident, the kids are doing wonderfully. They are continuing to eat EVERYTHING put in front of them. We found out last night that garlic bread is the new "have to have" in our house. Garlic kisses all around! They are continuing to bond with the grandparents too, especially Nana. They even spent a couple of hours at her house yesterday, riding bikes down the ramp off her front porch and eating sweets!

I have also started back to work. This seems to be helping the kids bond with Papa more, knowing that he is the one feeding them lunch and watching them throughout the day. It allows for some awesome one-on-one time for him and the kids as well. Since Papa works weekends, I get weekends with the kids. At least one of us is always there for the kids. Thank goodness we were able to work out some kind of schedule, being that we used most of our FMLA time while in Ukraine.

Continuing in progress...

This is great progress. We experience the same need to label things and "Mitchell's." When we say no, the new item becomes "Mitchell y Sydney's." If it everyone's, it has to be "Mitchell y Sydney y Mommy y Daddy." He understands the need to share, but still has to label it. There are a few items that are just "Mitchell's," like his bedtime blanket and his shovel. He is inconsulable if Sydney even touches it. I'd like to say that Sydney is sharing everything with him, but that is also not the case. "Her" items become a source of power over him. This is a whole other level of complexity that you are luck not to be dealing with.

It sounds like you are settling in wonderfully.

Sounds like you are getting settled and enjoying everyday life. It is amazing how all kids are kids. Sibling rivalry is just natural no matter where you are born :o)

Glad Aizley and Colton are doing so well and having fun with Papa during the week while you are at work! I think your schedules work great allowing one of you to be with them!!

Looking forward to tomorrow!
