We received notice last week that our opportunity to travel this year looks slim to none. Upon the slim chance that Ukraine begins accepting new dossiers at the end of the year (around October), we will have to wait 3 months before we receive a travel date which would be December at the earliest. The SDA in Ukraine closes in December for the holidays to finalize all current adoptions and prepare their system for the next year. If our dossier doesn't make it in the system before then, it would be at least April of 2009 before we could travel. We know that God does everything for a purpose, but it sometimes is hard to stand by and accept His plans. Our "forever" child is not ready yet, that's why we sit and wait.
In the mean time, we sit by and prepare as best we can considering we don't know if we will get one child or two. If they will be boys or girls or one of each. That hasn't stopped us though. We have found several cute things that can be either boy or girl. We have ran across a problem concerning their bedroom. How can you make a unisex room for a little boy or girl? You really need to know weither to go "princesses" or "pirates". We will manage though.

I noticed your blog and thought I might offer a suggestion. :) We have 3 - 2 boys and 1 girl - and hope to adopt another little girl from Ukraine, we are waiting on our 171 and hope to submit our dossier this year as well. But as for the room, my suggestion is to go with a color scheme that would work for either - and purchase some nice poster sized frames. Then, when you find out, use those to frame great prints that work for the gender you have. As they grow and their interests change, it is very inexpensive to change out the prints. Also, pillow shams of characters are an inexpensive way to add flair to an otherwise gender-neutral bedding scheme. Finally, fun things we have decorated with that are gender neutral are memo boards for cards and photos, and also mount a long narrow piece of wood horizontally at a level the child could reach, and paint it either the color of the wall if you don't want to attract attention, or a bright fun color if you do. Then screw wooden clothespins all along it, with the open end pointing toward the floor. This makes a wonderful place for your children to display their artwork or special papers given to them at church/school, etc... our kids love theirs and whatever they hang there (they change the papers out) adds so much life and character to the room. They also enjoy having a good sized mirror hung at their height and some hooks for dress up costumes (boys and girls both love this, remains to be seen whether they'll be posing in knight's armor or princess dresses is all). :) Finally, a few frames here and there just hung empty for now, to display special photos that you'll be acquiring, and you have an adorable room ready to go. :) hope this helps and best wishes as you continue.
