... like the Tucci's. A great couple (from the south. yeah, southern hospitality after weeks of frowns and hateful looks!) here to expand their family also. They have had some unfortunate luck with their first referral and are awaiting their second referral on Wednesday. Let's remember to pray for their strength as they face this journey with open hearts and minds.
We meet with John and Carrie and enjoyed a great afternoon of english conversation and american food. Oh, how refreashing and energizing the day was! Just what we needed to prepare for the next few weeks. Chicken sandwiches and steak in Kiev. Where else but at....
Aaaahhhh, TGI Friday's. So worth it. Thank you John and Carrie. We had a wonderful time.
To update about or progress. Our second appointment is also on Wednesday ~11am Kiev time (4am Smithville time). Several families have requested second appointments and they all seem to be on Wednesday. Hopefully, these referrals will be the "the" referrals for us. We are ready to move on, to actually have an agenda for the day instead of just waiting. There seems to be a limit to the amount of people watching one can do and I believe we have reached that limit. We have been doing some sight seeing, trying to pass the time and learn/see as much as we can but without someone to translate the wording, it does make it difficult to really understand the power and influence of what you're seeing.
We appreciate your continued support during our process. Eventhough we seem to be at a standstill for the moment, we know God is working on something big. Maybe we're needing this down time to prepare for the two kids that God has in store for us at our next appointment?!! Keeping our fingers crossed..

Aaaah! TGIFridays! It was a Mecca for Shad and I and our fellow weary adoption pals while in Kiev. It was so nice to have a touch of home. Did ya try the decadent chocolate drizzled brownie dessert? I think it single-handedly ruined any hopes I had of losing 10 pounds while in Kiev...but it was SO worth it! :)
I'm so glad that you were able to meet up with other Americans who have been there/done that. How nice to be able to lend support and advice too. It is nice to talk to someone who understands the process, the wait, and the anxiousness of meeting your child/ren for the first time. Just having a conversation in English with good ole American food is worth millions! We too ate at a Friday's in Moscow. I think it is funny that they have these restaurants, but boy does it get you excited to eat fries and sandwiches that you eat at home. Especially when you've been away from home for awhile!
I cannot wait to hear about your meeting on Wednesday. I know how excited you are to get another referral and hopefully meet your child/ren. Being at a standstill makes time so slow. Once you know the child you are waiting for, you can bear the additional time in country as you know that you'll soon be home as a family. Just look at us...almost home one year (Thursday...one year for us)!

I hope your 2nd appt goes well. The TGI Fridays was like a safe haven for our family! We were so excited to find it - we had eaten at McDonald quite a bit to that point. If you are interested in siblings, you could check on a brother/sister that we met in November. They are ages 6 & 7. They are in Lugansk. Email me privately for further info on them.
bergmannd@mchsi.com. We ended up not being able to adopt them due to complications with timing and my husband's job. We also really could only adopt one and had a hard time getting them to show us just individual children.
Yay!! So happy you guys got to meet up together!!
Ah, TGI Fridays, and the memories we made there!! We would go there for deep discussion, good food, a good time, a good drink or just good company. After our Gotcha day, it was where we took Audrey to socialize, a change of pace and for some good ole' fashioned home food. Try the chicken fettucini or the grilled chicken and cheese potatoes with green and red peppers and onions, we went for it everytime!

I thought you guys were in Fridays by the pic - then reading on . . . It is nice to have a little piece of some home along with some American's to chat with. I must admit that we ate there so often we didn't eat there for quite a while when we got back home. I'm glad you found each other. Praying that Wednesday is a wonderful day for you!

praying everything goes well on appt #2. We enjoyed Friday's while in Kyiv as well. Travelling underground was a lot of fun and if you turn right from Independence Sq (going away from Friday's) at the end of the street you turn right and walk up a big hill. Acros the street there is a beautiful park with a view across the river and the famous "good luck" bridge. If you get a chance, check it out.
